Ingredients

  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp Honey
  • 2 Room-temperature eggs
  • ½ cups Vegetable shortening
  • ½ cups Butter at room temperature
  • ½ cups Milk chocolate chips
  • cups Granulated sugar
  • ¾ cups Old Fashioned or quick oats
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chunks (divide them; refer to the recipe below)
  • 1⅓ cups Packed dark brown sugar
  • cups Semi-sweet dark chocolate chips
  • cups All-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Lay down parchment paper on a 13-inch by 9-inch cookie sheet.
  • Blend the dry ingredients with a whisk, including the baking powder, baking soda, flour, salt, and rolled or Old Fashioned oats. Set this to the side.
  • Use a hand blender or a stand mixer to cream the wet ingredients together (butter, honey, sugar, vanilla, and shortening).
  • Drop in the eggs and mix until well-blended.
  • Dump the dry ingredients into the bowl of wet ingredients and continue blending. Scrape the bowl’s side as necessary for a thorough blend.
  • Mix the three types of chocolate. Place only half of the semi-sweet chocolate chunks and keep the other half off to the side for later.
  • For best results, use a two-inch cookie scoop to shape each cookie. Alternatively, you can scoop the dough into a teaspoon and roll it into a ball by hand. Each ball should measure about a quarter cup so it is about the same size as Chick Fil A cookies.
  • Place each ball three inches apart from one another throughout the cookie sheet for even spreading. Pop two to three of the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chunks on top of each cookie dough ball.
  • If the cookies are a quarter cup each, bake for 11 to 13 minutes until they are evenly cooked. If you make smaller cookies, bake them for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and set them on the stove to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool for about 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Serve the cookies to your family! Store any leftovers in an airtight container and set them on your kitchen counter to remain at room temperature. Eat them within 72 hours for optimal freshness.

Since honey is made from bees, vegans cannot include this in their cookie recipe. Instead, opt for agave nectar which is a plant-based substitute with about the same sweetness as honey.

PETA suggests substituting one egg by mixing two tablespoons of water, one tablespoon of oil, and two teaspoons of baking powder. Hence, since you need two eggs, you should mix four tablespoons of water, two tablespoons of oil, and four teaspoons of baking soda as a vegan substitute for this cookie recipe.
